Summer, Water Views in the Yorks
My family has a long history in York Maine. My great grandparents bought their house in York Harbor shortly after WW2 – my mom and her brother, as well as their cousins, spent their childhood summers at that house and have the memories to prove it. Unfortunately the family sold the house prior to me being part of this world but I have my own childhood memories of York as we spent a lot of time at the beach on day trips or family get aways. Even to this day – York is still the choice location for family vacations.
My favorite connection with York is the ocean – whether you are on Long Sands or Short Sands, or over at the Harbor – the ocean is such a presence that it just soothes my soul. These photos are from wanderings all over the Yorks – some of my favorites of this set are the two girls boogie-boarding in the surf. This reminded me of my childhood summers where we would have a blast body surfing no matter what the water temperature was. As I took this pictures I could not help but wonder how cold that water was – it was just early June…
